Chapter 18
Floating on Sadness
A drift between memories.
Summary
Quiet processing chapter — the cooldown after the Chapter 17 Skateboard Explosion catharsis. The Cure's Plainsong plays, the seven-minute gothic post-punk opener of Disintegration that's universally cited as one of the slowest, most spatially designed songs in the canon. Stacy drifts through a stylized memory-space with no skill check, no time pressure, no achievement gated — the whole point is the drift. Voiceover from Stacy reflects on the night so far, while visual quotes from earlier chapters (callbacks to the Chapter 1 bedroom, the Chapter 3 kiss, the Chapter 11 skate) drift past as scenery. Headphone listening matters here more than anywhere else in the game; Plainsong's instrumentation rewards depth and the stereo mix is engineered for it. Chapter ends as Stacy returns to the physical world for the next sequence.
