Minigame
Skateboarding
Concrete, headphones, board. Master the kickflip and the car-ollie.
Mixtape's skating sequences are the most kinetic minigame layer in the game, spread across at least four chapters and gated behind three of the missable achievements. The mechanic is forgiving on rails but punishing on timing — and three of the four skating sub-games each demand a different muscle memory.
Core Techniques
- Press A or X with proper distance from a car to ollie over it (Thrashed achievement). Smaller cars are much easier than vans/trucks. Aim for sedans.
- On Skate to Cassandra's (Ch 11), there are exactly 10 traffic cones along the route — Cone Island, Baby achievement requires hitting all 10. They are spread linearly through the route, so deviating to grab one means you may miss the next.
- On Skateboard Explosion (Ch 17, the rage chapter), use LT/RT triggers to detonate roadside objects. Maintain near-continuous destruction the entire stretch for Appetite for Destruction.
- Don't lean into rail-grinding tricks — Mixtape's controls don't reward grind chains. Forward speed plus precise timing on jumps is the entire skill ceiling.
- Headphone audio mix is meaningfully different in skating chapters — the music kicks louder and the wind decreases. This is intentional. Play these chapters with headphones if you can.

Gated achievements
Thrashed
During any skating section, press A or X as a car approaches to jump over it. Aim for smaller cars — they are much easier to clear. Aiming pre-jump matters more than timing.
Cone Island, Baby
During Chapter 11 (Skate to Cassandra's), steer into 10 different cones. There are exactly 10 along the route, so don't miss any.
Appetite for Destruction
In the Skateboard Explosion chapter, hold the left and right triggers as you skate to detonate roadside objects. Maintain near-continuous destruction the whole stretch. Name is a Guns N' Roses album nod.
